EFT

EFT Stand for Emotional Freedom Technique. It has often been described as "acupuncture without needles". Also one may hear it referred to as "tapping", because it works by people tapping on energy points also used in acupressure and acupuncture to provide emotional relief. The founder of EFT, Gary Craig, put it this way: "The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system".

We  know our mind and bodies are connected. When people get emotionally upset, their stomaches may hurt. A conflict and the resulting tension can develop into a headache. when people have a negative emotion, that can result in an energy block in the body that can be released by tapping, providing relief. It can resolve fears such as fear of certain animals or thunder and lightning. It can provide relief from old traumas like a traffic accident or crime victimization. By tapping on the acupressure points, signals are generated in the body that reduce the arousal in the emotional system in the brain that is causing fear. The fear alarm that is no longer useful is gone, even though the memory or trigger for the fear is still present. Thus a memory that used to evoke great pain becomes just a memory, like thinking about what you had for breakfast.

I have been practicing this modality for the past 11 years and continue to be excited and amazed with the results my clients recieve from EFT. It is easy to learn the basic tapping points and I encourage people to use it on themselves. For basic problems it is possible to get great results on your own. For deeper or more complicated issues, for example when your "problem" is actually benefiting you in some sneaky way you don't know about, getting the help of a professional is a good idea.
